Remember that behavior is communication.If a nonverbal child has no communication system, they will learn to communicate inappropriate behaviors. Often educators and parents are hesitant to use alternative systems of communications (i.e., PECS, typing, sign language) because they are afraid it will hinder speech developing, or that it is like giving up on their child or student.
